Got these in place of a MERV 12 from the same company. There's not a lot of carbon in there, but hopefully that helps. If you're concerned about particles smaller than 2.5 microns, buy this over a lower rated product. IF your mechanical ventilation system can use MERV 14 or higher, by all means get it. When I vacuum our apartment, I turn our forced ventilation to "filter only" mode and leave it on for a while. This setting is also useful when a lot of people have gathered, there's dust, it's allergy season, or someone opened a window while the wind was blowing outside.
