Good performance but severe mold problem

I have had this irrigator for a little over 3 years and it has become an important part of my oral hygiene routine. It does an excellent job of removing food debris from between teeth and along the gum line. We recently learned about the dangers of mold and started looking into Waterpik. The growth of mold on the rubber portion of the grip and along its seams was hard to miss. I also found spots of mold in the case assembly. Attempts to remove the mold from the stick with a bleach cloth didn't work. I was able to clean the case fairly easily and ordered a replacement (non-original) wand assembly. The aftermarket wand does not have a rubberized part, which is not easy to clean and more prone to mold. I went ahead and split the original handle assembly and found an unattractive amount of mold on the inside in addition to what I found on the outside. I found this to be a fairly common problem and also found some recommended steps that should help prevent mold from reappearing. The main reason for the low rating is not that mold has developed but that the manual that came with Waterpik doesn't say anything about how to prevent mold. There are some basic steps that can help: - Dry the probe before inserting it into the holder. - After use, drain the remaining water from the reservoir. - Allow the pump to run dry by placing the bracket at a lower level than the Waterpik irrigator through the vinegar solution from time to time
