I was surprised at how much cold air was coming into my rooms when I removed some of the covers because the exits seemed cold to me. I took a few off and there was actually a slight breeze that could be felt in an extension I recently built with adequate insulation, house wrap and vinyl siding. I guess I wasn't careful enough when wrapping and/or cutting the insulation to go around my rough boxes. I bought another set and placed it on the outside wall around everything because it's cheaper than heating the cold air entering the rooms. We have a lot of strong winds here, so I can do it outside, so that small step wasn't difficult. If your electrical boxes are cracked and there is a lot of open space around them...like some of mine in older parts of the house...some self-adhesive window molding will close the gaps and are easy to trim. I may need to invest in a leak detector because I know there's more cold air coming in than I've found so far.
