I bought this to use with my air grinder to clean aluminum engine parts. It did that very well - removed old paint, grease etc, did a good job with the old gasket and didn't damage the aluminum finish. This is a soft brush - much softer than large wire or branch brushes. It probably won't do much against heavy rust, scale, etc., but that's not what I bought it for. It shed wires in my grinder, which I've found happens to everyone, so be sure to wear proper safety glasses when working. Minimum.
