Review on Enhance Your Floating Wood Shelves with BATODA Floating Shelf Brackets – Strong πŸ”§ & Hidden Supports for Thin Shelves – Includes Screws and Wall Plugs (8 pcs Hardened) by Jake Powell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Requires precise drilling. Plastic anchors require 3/4 " thick drywall to work.

I bought these brackets to hang a 1 1/16" thick floating shelf/mantel over my fireplace. Studs. I used one Drill guide to make sure the holes are perpendicular to the wall When I drilled the third hole in the drywall, I found that the plastic anchor that came with it did not secure the bracket when screwing it in. This is because the drywall in my house is 5/ 8" thick, however the anchors only work with 3/4" drywall. I also found that the local hardware store didn't have anchors big enough to work with the staples. I decided to get a short 3 8" one -Putting dowels into the shelf to line it up with the hole in the drywall I should note that this shelf isn't meant to support any appreciable load so I think there is ss two rivet mounts should be enough to support it. To drill holes in a shelf, a drill press would be very useful for precision. Since I don't currently have one, I used a drill guide and hand drill to drill 1/4" pilot holes in the shelf, which I subsequently enlarged to the recommended 27/64". If you don't have a way to drill 4 inch deep vertical holes, I would recommend looking for another way to hang a floating shelf. Installing the shelf after everything was drilled was pretty easy. The threaded portion of the brackets is off-center so rotating the bracket will fine tune the alignment of the brackets with the holes in the shelf. Overall I'd say this system works, but it's not for the inexperienced or the faint of heart. selfless handyman.
