I shoot 300 yards at 8 inch steel targets with no problem. I don't keep shooting, but it's good to know if it's worth getting closer to the target. various objects just for fun, my greatest range was in open water, 1149 yards to a tug. The average distance for me was accurate for cows well over 600 yards, deer and coyotes up to 500 yards, turkeys within 300 yards, geese flying up to 100 m. A tripod will probably extend this range, but of course it will be less in fog, rain and snow. Too bad Nikon wants to distance themselves from sport shooting, their product performance is excellent in the field. , as well as at the landfill.
