Review on 🚿 Grohe 46174000 MetalFlex Hose for Kitchen Faucet, 59-Inch, Chrome by Kyle Mack

Fits and works great after figuring out a few things

I'm writing this review in case anyone else experiences some of the twists and turns I did. I bought this replacement hose (Grohe 46 174) for the LadyLux3 Cafe Plus model 33 893 (Grohe double-jet main washbasin pull-out spray) which is currently over 20 years old. It works great and fits perfectly IF YOU UNDERSTAND how to remove AND install the old hose AND what parts to reuse. First of all, before going too far, you need to think about the order of actions. It seemed simple at first: before attempting to remove the old hose, turn off the hot and cold water supplies under the sink. The old hose threads into a quick coupler (it looks like the coupler is designed to prevent the hose from twisting). Disconnect this hose by pulling down on the quick disconnect under the sink (then unscrew the hose from the coupler and remove/retain the long spring around the hose). Before doing anything else, remove the spray head from the other end of the hose on the faucet. This is where it gets interesting. I had to call Grohe support to make sure the old hose could actually be pulled through the faucet as it seemed to be stuck to something. It required some wiggling and wiggling and gently pulling and twisting the old hose on top AND an extra pair of hands under the sink pushing the end of the hose through the main brass pipe to get it out. Importantly, Grohe's wife explained that for my LadyLux3 model I would also need to keep and reuse the coupler (on the atomizer end) from my old hose rather than using one of the two female couplers that came with the new .bag (they didn't have enough thread size). The replacement hose had a threaded end that mates with the existing quick connect end that was part of my under sink Grohe faucet. To make sure I could put/insert the new replacement hose back into the faucet, I smeared some plumbing grease on and near the end to reduce the friction when reinserting it into the faucet/pipe. From that point on, installation using my existing spring was easy and took about 10 minutes. [Note: Thread the new hose onto the quick connector by hand only (no tools required) - it will not leak. Then put the quick connector on the pipe.] I'd suggest you try the grease (or petroleum jelly) trick before making the more drastic decision of separating and filing the faucet body where you suspect. the limit used by another assessor.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • The list will go on.
