Review on XFasten Red Gaffers Tape: Heavy Duty, No-Residue Matte Finish Tape For Cables And Cords - 2 Inch X 30 Yards by Ronald Dimatulac

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well and is easy to tear

This is good gaffer's tape. I've now bought two rolls of it and am pleased with its ease of use and sticking quality. It's fairly easy to pull off the roll and tear, but it holds things well. I have not yet had problems with the adhesive coming off the tape, but I'm careful to first put down painter's tape (the blue stuff) when I need to stick this gaffer's tape to something sensitive. For example, I worked a video shoot the other day and had to attach a small light to the bottom of an antique mirror frame. I put blue painter's tape on the frame first, then stuck the gaffer's tape to the blue tape. That way, everything peeled off cleanly with no adhesive residue. The gaffer's tape might have worked fine by itself, but I didn't want to take the chance. At this same shoot, I used this gaffer's tape on window glass that was then heated up by the sun. The tape and adhesive came off the glass when it was time to remove it, but it was a *really* hard pull. Any harder and I might have broken the window. I'm chalking that up to the tape getting heated in the sun.I like this gaffer's tape -- it's a little pricey, but not too bad. It was quite hard to get it out of its shrink-wrap packaging, which is the only noteworthy issue I have with this tape.

Pros
  • Gaffer Tape
Cons
  • The tape's color may discolor, leading to an unappealing look after prolonged use
