Review on πŸšͺ Gator Door Latch Restorer - Strike Plate in Satin Nickel by Scott Gamache

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works great but a bit "hacky "

First of all, this solved my problem. I had a door that used to have a deadbolt that shut it tight, but when I bought new doorknobs there was no deadbolt for what I needed. This loosened the latch, causing the latch to rub heavily when attempting to close it. I have a Kevo SmartLock so it wouldn't fully close most of the time. This product has narrowed the latch hole and the door is now held in the perfect position to eliminate all friction when closing the latch. However, the reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that it feels a bit hackish. I thought the inner plate could be adjusted to narrow the hole, but it's actually static. You narrow the hole by sticking a small screwdriver in the tab and bending it, basically creating a "hump" protruding into the hole. It works, it just doesn't look as pretty as I would like it to with a sliding backplate. But how often do you look at your bar, right? Well, another thing is I'm hearing three different clicks now. The first is between the outer plate and the inner plate, the second is between the inner plate and the extended part of the tongue (where you bend it with a screwdriver), and the third is when the pawl passes the lip . If you close it quickly you only hear two, maybe one, and it's not a big deal, just not what I was expecting. If you bend the tab all the way (which made my door TOO tight) you run the risk of opening the door as you have to bend the traditional tab at the back instead of the front, which is worse than the bolts! So I have to pass that on to you, this is a product that works in almost every situation, I just wish it was done a little differently to avoid the two annoyances above.
