Review on Maxxis 700 Radiale Folding Tire by Randy Montiel

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Update, the ride is too soft.

I don't normally write product reviews, but sometimes a product is so exceptional that I have to share it. I have been using Maxxis Ignitor tires on my mountain bike for a number of years and am very happy with them. When I saw these radial tires for my road bike, I just couldn't help but try them. I have a Felt F2 full carbon bike, Dura Ace, and it is very sensitive to tires. After just a 30km ride on these tires I was blown away. Soft handling, but low rolling resistance and excellent cornering. The radials have the same 3C composition as the detonators and give the same results. Truly gives you the best of all worlds. I'm not sure how well they will wear over time, but I don't care. I can't imagine putting any other tires on my F2 and when they wear out I'll buy a new set, even if it's only once a year. I just wish Maxxis made a wide version (32-35mm) so I could fit the kit to my touring bike. Update: I'd like to wait a bit later in the season to buy them. Put them on and drive alone and they looked ok. Now that the weather is warmer I got the road bike back out and did a few club rides and couldn't keep up. Did a comparison with the old Gatorskins and the rolling resistance is much higher on the radials. Too bad it's been 30 days for me and I can't return it. Stuck with $100 error.
