The old one couldn't fix it properly so I took a chance it was the right cartridge and it was. The price is a bit high but not bad. I opened the packaging, screwed the part into the tank drain, then unscrewed the old SS cap, pushed it in and voila! Like a new bathroom. I couldn't find anything wrong with the old one at all, other than that it didn't work. So I grabbed some ChannelLock pliers and remade the old cylinder and it eventually snapped into place. It's too difficult so I'll investigate further why the old cylinder is so difficult to compress and it seems to work better when rotated to certain positions so it could be a wear issue. I'll try to post an update if I find a problem. But buying a new insert was the RIGHT thing to do. Works perfectly, simple and stable. I just hope I can find it in 10 years when this one wears out. Hmm, maybe I should make a backup?
