I bought this to improve the WLAN access outside the house. I don't need a mesh network as most of the major devices in the house are connected, but I do have a WiFi camera at our gate which is about 75 feet from the house and a smart switch and outlet in our house. separate garage. Without a hotspot, I couldn't access the front gate camera that far, making it pretty much useless. My network is very simple. Cable modem with switch and POE switch (for POE IP cameras). I have a Ubiquiti hotspot connected to my switch, which is connected to a cable modem via the included POE injector. It would be nice if the power cord was longer. When the POE injector was on my desk, the cable couldn't reach the splitter on the floor. I used a spare laptop power cord. I ran an ethernet cable about 50 feet to an access point mounted on a pillar on our porch. Setup was easy. It's been a long time since I set up an access point and I remember the last time I had trouble setting up an access point on a router of the same brand. Set up your Ubiquiti account, login to your router, a few clicks, verify your WiFi credentials and that's it. It just works and it has worked flawlessly, even through a couple of heavy downpours and a couple of heavy thunderstorms. Before AP, whether I could access the smart switch and outlet in the garage was random. Normally I couldn't access it. If I could, it would take a good 10 seconds or more to turn a device plugged into a switch or outlet on or off. Now it connects instantly and turns the device on or off immediately after pressing the power button in the app. Since installation I have added 2 smart garage door openers. They connected with no issues and responded quickly through the app. The web interface is great. Very fast and intuitive. It has many features even without the UniFi Security Gateway.
