Turns out I needed it, and it existed, and it's actually very comfortable and durable. What is surprising, however, is that the cross strap connecting the front shoulder straps does not tighten as apparently intended. There is no way to reconfigure this to fix this. Big mistake. I use them for a wider than average bag so they tend to ride back over my shoulders trying to slide off. You would have the same problem if you had a smaller bag and medium or narrow frames. For my urban day bag, I can tolerate that, but it violates the conditions for continuous or outdoor use.
