Final review (this is the last update)

There will be an update to this review but for now. Both 5GHz radios were available, but a 2.4GHz radio was listed as available but was not. The light on the Wi-Fi router came on, but the radio was not listed as an available radio in any device list. Also, the reception "seemed" to be worse than the ASUS device I replaced. That means before the signal was marked as 'good' on my HDR TV, this router's Wi-Fi reception was listed as 'good'. Always used ASUS has shown itself really well. I purchased this item NEW from Amazon, but feel like I actually received a refurbished item or someone else's repackaged item. Will update this review once the replacement is installed. UPDATED: Second block installed. Woman says it's faster. The 2.4 GHz radio works. A NOTICE. If I hadn't disconnected each radio during setup because there is an option to let the router determine which radio to use, I wouldn't have noticed the 2.4 bug in the first router. Speed tests are conducted for both wired and wireless networks and the results are updated in this review. Although the first device arrived within a day, the second device took about 5 days to arrive. We hobbled around with the very buggy first device until the second arrived. Lagging is defined as SLOW speed and questionable streaming. LATEST UPDATE: I've been an ASUS fan for years. This is the first product that disappointed me. This second router, identical to the one it replaced, started failing after about three weeks of service, but I didn't notice until week 4 when I noticed my 2.4GHz doorbell stopped working (fatal error). Everything else worked over a 5 GHz radio. However, last week there were sporadic signs of 5GHz radios not working, but no major outages. What is surprising is that this device has been on the market for quite some time and it still has problems.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Ease of maintenance
