Terrible experience with this router

First we tried to use the manufacturer's firmware and updated it if requested. This was a bug, so we tried the Merlin firmware and we were still having issues. Is the router fast? Absolutely. He also has a good reach. But CONSTANTLY SELECTING DEVICES (2.4 GHz devices) from the network. With a lot of effort you get them back and then they fall again. Coincidentally. Those were the days of frustration trying to make it work. It's a sad situation because when he worked, he was lightning fast. Send

The router worked fine for about 1 year, and then suddenly I started.

The router worked for about 1 year and all of a sudden I started having intermittent disconnects. I've fixed every problem in the world, tried every firmware version. Then I went back to the Optimum router and found that there were almost no disconnects. I suspect something outside the home is causing the shutdown. I replaced my cable modem with a Netgear CM600 to fix this culprit. Tested speeds with the Optimum model: 412Mbps down / 42 up. Swapped out this router with the same setup, ran a…

Do not buy this Asus router

Four months later this VERY expensive router stopped working. But the reason for the 1 star is the terrible service from Asus. They make it impossible to get an RMA to send it in for repair. They also make it impossible to register a product. If you try to enter a serial number, a message appears that the serial number is incorrect. I took a picture of the serial number, enlarged it, and tried to enter it in every way I could think of, but it kept saying the serial number was wrong. You cannot…

$500 for 3 years and now it's dead. No support from Asus

I bought this router and paid $499 when it was first released in December 2015. Last month the 2.4Ghz link drops all connections and won't connect until I reboot the router. When it connects, devices show up, but they don't get internet. I can only access the internet through a wired connection and now the 5.0 GHz channel is down as well. I contacted Asus support (to no avail) and besides the fact that I could barely understand the tech, he was kind enough to walk me through various steps such…

Stability 3+ years

This new vehicle was purchased in January 2017 it is now June 2020 and it is still working. We've never had a problem with the device itself, we reset our entire setup (modem + router) about once a week, just a 10 second full shutdown and reboot if something seems buggy, but considering how heavily we use it using it, this is acceptable (and we're sure it's mostly because of our modem, not the router!). We have 3 people working remotely all day and VOIP calls and Teams/Zoom calls throughout the

Not a very reliable router option

I've seen some other reviews but thought maybe they were just unlucky and got a faulty router. I guess I'm unlucky too. Firstly I'd say believe the reviews that say the support from ASUS is bad - I'd call it world class bad except at least you get to talk to someone. Just don't expect much help if there's a problem, not something you didn't read about when setting it up. When I first got the router it powered up fine but didn't show up on my computer for me to set it up. I thought it was…

Final review (this is the last update)

There will be an update to this review but for now. Both 5GHz radios were available, but a 2.4GHz radio was listed as available but was not. The light on the Wi-Fi router came on, but the radio was not listed as an available radio in any device list. Also, the reception "seemed" to be worse than the ASUS device I replaced. That means before the signal was marked as 'good' on my HDR TV, this router's Wi-Fi reception was listed as 'good'. Always used ASUS has shown itself really well. I purchased

Devices like Roku sometimes fail to connect to .

I'm a network analyst at a major ISP. I have almost 20 years in this field. I troubleshoot networks that span an entire continent and some that span an ocean. I've worked on wireless network and internet connection support, I'm currently working on corporate networks and routers that are much more advanced than this device. I'm not saying this to blow my own horn, but to say that what I'm sharing comes from a seasoned professional. Previous wireless router I unfortunately broke the processor on
