I have been using this type of McGard wheel lock on various vehicles for over 30 years. I recently bought a set of 5 for my Jeep Wrangler JK. The quality of the material is excellent as always. The good thing is that they offer them in sets of 5 for those who have externally mounted spare tires. The detent protrudes slightly above the rest, but that's to be expected given the detent crown. I've had no problem cleaning the key lip, but I always use a manufacturer's specified torque wrench. In this case, the Jeep owner's manual states that the lug nut should be torqued to 95 ft lbs (130 Nm). You might think that the tab could be loosened with a vice or other pair of pliers, but this tab is insufficient to grip the lock at a 90 degree angle and if you try to clamp the vise straight it is doubtful you can overcome this 95 foot pounds. Also, I use them as a deterrent, not a foolproof method. Mostly for the casual thief to turn to an easier target. For a professional, that's insurance. But I've never had a wheel theft problem in over 30 years of using McGard. The attached photos show them on the jockey wheel and spare wheel.
