🔒 Set of 5 McGard 24538 Chrome Cone Seat Wheel Locks - 1/2"-20 Thread Size Review

I just bought a set of these locks for my motorhome and am very happy with them. The quality is exceptional including the chrome plating. They are easy to install and provide years of trouble free service. I have them on all my cars and have never had any problems. The key should be kept in a safe place for easy access in the event of a flat tire or other service needs. Overall, this is a highly recommended quality product at a great price!

Finally a set of five locks. I have a Jeep Liberty with a spare tire in the back. Most lug lock kits only have four locks. So I had to buy two sets and keep two keys in the car. A few years ago I had a spare tire stolen in a very public lot and will not drive without a lock and nut after spending over $400 changing the tire, rim and pressure sensor in it. Externally mounted spare tires are too easy to remove and toss into the truck in about a minute without locking nuts.

The product is easy to install. I had a problem unscrewing native nuts. I used a ton of WD-40 and broke a 3/8" drive breaker, a regular 3/8" drive head and a 3/8" drive adapter. I was able to take them off by 1/2 inch. an operating impact head and a 1/2 inch breaking bar with a long tube attached for leverage. Don't be a fool like me and try 3/8 inch powered tools. These tabs are cast, not solid, and that's important. When first installed by hand, the locking eyelet on my spare tire broke in two with minimal torque (hand tight only, no power or air tools). Luckily I was able to line up the broken part with the rest of the tab and loosen it from the threads (this should indicate how little torque was on the tab when it broke). I have been using this type of McGard wheel lock on various vehicles for over 30 years. I recently bought a set of 5 for my Jeep Wrangler JK. The quality of the material is excellent as always. I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD Unlimited and wanted to mount the spare tire to the trunk (don't forget to use the red chevron to secure the mounting bolts to the car or someone could run off with all the rails/ support blocks).
