I purchased this 0-3000 psi gauge to measure the outlet pressure on my airless spray gun. Plastic postal envelope. I'm sure he was thrown. The thread was protected by a plastic cap. I wrapped three turns of teflon tape and wrapped it straight. I tightened it to handle the 3000psi max pump pressure. The gauge clicked at 500psi and when pressure was applied it increased the gauge to around 2300psi which I knew was what it was. In summary, I would not recommend this pressure gauge to any fellow painter. In my career/life (I'm 69) I've installed many pneumatic and hydraulic gauges and none of them have done this.
