As a tool for connecting your laptop to serial control ports, this device does the job but isn't very durable. If you are like me, this device is mainly used in the field. In the field, these devices can fail during normal use. I bought two of these. On both devices, the case cracked and detached easily during normal use in the field, which is disappointing. The ties holding the hull together simply lack strength/reliability in the field. On a positive note, while both of my cases now detach easily from the smallest glass, it still retains the functionality of the device so it's a mixed bag in this case. Another frustrating thing is that the drivers didn't automatically install on all my MacBooks (at least for me) and I had to manually find, download and install the correct drivers from Tripp Lite.
