Tight fit but worth the install. Initially I had a slightly choppy idle system when stopping and eventually after about a year the OBD system reported two vacuum leaks in the system. Did some research and found that one of the reasons could be a crack in the CCV system at a weak point. I also had a small oil leak from the car which is due to the power steering hoses which are common on E46s at this point in their lives. Upon further investigation under the hood I found a leak at the bottom of the VANOS CCV pipe and separator joint which was slowly leaking oil all over the block and onto the power steering hoses. After many hours of stripping the intake manifold and other associated components (I found this method easier on my big hands than the alternative method which requires you to thread new CCV parts through the intake and wires, phew), I replaced this old leaking CCV . System on my ZHP with this cold weather version even though I live in Texas. All elements are insulated as befits a cold weather system. Some items fit very tightly into place due to the extra insulation. I'm hoping the isolation will make this system last longer than the previous version as removing the intake manifold every few years isn't too much fun. In Texas we experience periods of frost from time to time, so the cold weather regime makes little sense here. When installing this system I had an issue with one of the o-rings on the pipe that goes from the VANOS to the lower tank/separator (forgot technical name). This o-ring was a little too big so it refused to snap at this point as the o-ring kept snapping and preventing the two pieces from snapping together. Also, the pipe from the VANOS to the separator is very stiff and although the necks of this pipe are designed to flex, they don't flex much, which is important in the area of the system, so I was concerned the pipe would bend. A small connection to the separator could have caused the hose to snap or break, but it didn't. Hopefully this won't be a weak point in the future as the stiffness will put extra stress on it. Luckily I was able to use the old o-ring from the old system and connect the hoses and tank/separator. I used a large dipstick tube o-ring which requires an o-ring when rebuilding this system and is not included. So buy one if you can.
