Easy to use, just freeze an empty canister overnight and patiently open the valve slowly and just a little until you hear liquid CO2 pouring out. Take your time. I usually use filled cans, which are heavier and last longer than original cans. If your storage container doesn't have a siphon tube, you may need to lay it on its side or even upside down to allow the liquid to flow into the smaller canister. The savings are very significant. We use a small canister about every 3 weeks and fill it from a 20lb tank; A refurbished tank and refill adapter pays for itself (from savings) in about 6 months, and a large tank is replaced with a full one about every 14 months (which costs about $37). Drinking sparkling water is far healthier than most. Alternatively, you can add an ounce of juice (or straight juice) and making it yourself will greatly reduce plastic waste.
