Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Precision with Newkiton Marking Bearing Screwdriver - A Complete Package for Accurate Marking and Screwdriving by Vince Preston

inexpensive and suitable for cardboard

Note. I use this tool for notching cardboard; I have no opportunity to use it for fine woodworking (in which case I would choose Lee-Nielsen) so my review is not indicative of its use for wood. Looks relatively cheap (the scale markings are lasered in a rather amateurish way), but the tolerances are fine, no fluctuations, the scale is actually quite accurate and the Rollerblade has smooth-running bearings. I think it's great for everyday use. I would like to mention a mod that might be useful. It's immediately obvious that a set screw will tighten on a bare metal shaft, and many of us understand that means lots of round scratches or worse. It's not just cosmetic; Bumps on the shaft can affect accurate positioning if you're picky. Before I even used it, I cut a 1/8" piece out of 1/16" Teflon sheet and stuck it into the set screw hole to act as a support pad between the screw and the shaft. Teflon is optional, of courseβ€”just about any non-metallic material will do: plastic from a milk carton, the end of a toothpick, or even a tiny piece of paper.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Large and bulky
