To paraphrase the popular watch motto, this sharpener can lick and keep sharpening. I have no idea how long I've had the sharpener, it's been over 15 years. Over time it starts to get loud. Maximum. But given the fact that it works great, it would be ridiculous to replace a working product just because I've heard it works. It has an overheat shutoff feature - if you're trying to sharpen a bunch of brand new pencils one after the other, it'll shut itself off after a few minutes until it cools down. This is a self-save feature. You can't burn the motor or the wiring, it won't. The quality of his work is impeccable. The glasses I get now are as sharp as ever. And I use this product several times a month, which is a lot of pencil use these days. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because of the noise. I'm amazed that my cats don't jump out of their skins when I sharpen a pencil for no reason while they're napping. Too bad you can't (allegedly) get them new, but take the author's word for it. who still needs to get pen and pencil to paper to do my first sketches let alone take notes, literally jotting things down in pencil on my calendar etc, also a used sharpener will do just as well. And cleaning is a breeze, just pull the small tray forward, unload, slide back in, done. Like the Model T, you can choose a color as long as it's black. made in a communist country because their parts and labor costs are cheaper it's not a difficult choice.
