I bought this for my daughter's gerbils: Dino, Tony and Marco. As with most rodents, gerbils' teeth continue to grow and they need something hard to chew on to wear down those teeth. Niteangel Natural Wood Hamster Mouse Tunnel Toy Forest Hollow Tree Trunk perfectly meets this need of these kids. They like to go in and out of lots of holes that are fairly round and not chipped at all, and they like to chew around the holes, which helps grind down their teeth. It's quite expensive for a short branch stump, but I don't have a branch or drill bit to make holes as big as people who build natural wood nite rods, hamster and mouse toy tunnels, hollow forest trunk. Try again. Our recently deceased gerbil was quite plump in old age and unlikely to fit through holes, but would viciously gnaw through the entrance on a vain attempt to get in - which would serve the purpose, although your plumper hamster/gerbil might miss the fun to travel through holes. Overall my daughter and I are happy with our Niteangel Natural Wood Hamster and Mouse Tunnel Toy Forest Hollow Log - Dino, Tony and Marco seem to like it too.
