Towers are pretty strong and, important to me, are designed for round bars. I've been using Yakima racks for years and wanted to keep as many of my components as possible, which wouldn't be the case with the new streamlined system. I have to say that these towers are not up to the standard of the old guys. Two of the four failed to close because there was insufficient clearance between the cover and the crossbeam. A little caress corrected the situation. However, all four open and close quite stubbornly. I think using locks would be necessary to keep them closed.
