🚗 YAKIMA Control Towers: Exceptional Roof Rack Mounting System for Ultimate Control Review

Based on my other website review, this control tower doesn't fit on blocks as easily as it should. I had to shave about an eighth of an inch off each tower to fit the pillow and even then it fit fine. The manual says that after installing the tower you need to tighten the pads, but you can't do that. Once the tower is installed there is no room for the wrench to come in contact with the pad.

Yakima make very good products but be aware that not all tables will be suitable when ordering car accessories. Control towers are different from Q-Towers. I ended up having to send them back because they didn't work on my truck. I had to contact Yakima directly to find the right parts. Revain was extremely helpful and understanding of her return. I was just disappointed because if they did fit they would be cheaper.

These control towers work great on my 2012 5 door Mazda 3 along with landing pads. Seems solid when closed, I leave the landing pads on all the time and remove control towers and poles when not in use. Very quick and easy to make, in fact, TOO easy, I need to get the locking bars as it would be VERY easy for someone to pull them right out of the car and walk away with them. So far I have carried my 18ft sea kayak. about 400 miles with them.

I'm a little boatman on the roof. This is a great system as I take my rack off every time I use it. Simply unclip and remove, no screws required. I have been using this rig for 3 years and have decided to purchase a second set of rudder towers so I can easily install another set of rudders tuned for another boat. Whether I'm pulling out my OC-1, Wherry, or Adventure Island, I simply snap the appropriate poles and drop the boat onto them. Makes my life easier.

Towers are pretty strong and, important to me, are designed for round bars. I've been using Yakima racks for years and wanted to keep as many of my components as possible, which wouldn't be the case with the new streamlined system. They are well designed and very nice to put on and take off. What's disappointing is that I'm not happy with what's attached to either side - the fit kit and bars aren't great (IMO).
