I get a lot of packages, and I have always worried about keeping them secure. So, I thought the BoxLock would be perfect for me. But, it turns out that it really isn't, and I feel bad saying that because it's not the fault of BoxLock, it's more the fault of mail carriers who refuse to use it.The quality of the box is good. It seems sturdy, and it's very roomy, so several small packages or one medium package could easily fit. It wouldn't work for some of the larger packages I have gotten. The bad part is that it's really light. It's bulky so wouldn't be easy to grab this and take off, but it wouldn't be impossible. However, you can bolt it down, or you could put some weights at the bottom to make it less easy to carry the box itself off.The lock itself is pretty heavy duty, so I have no doubt it would work to secure the packages inside. Setup of the lock to work with the whole system is a process that takes some time. Several steps are involved: Connect your lock via bluetooth to your phone. Sign up for a BoxLock account and register your lock with the account. For BoxLock to work, you need to give them your email address, AND give them permission to scan your emails. This is so that they can monitor your email and look for package notifications. Then, sign up for delivery notifications with all major mail carriers, and make sure those notifications are going to your email so that BoxLock can find them when they scan your email. So, at this point, you might be a bit put off by the whole process, because it's taken so many steps AND you are giving BoxLock access to your emails. I am sure that they will say that they do not look at your private emails or store that information anywhere, but how would you know? People who are wary about having their identity stolen would definitely shy away from this process. So, once you go through the whole process to sign up with BoxLock, the system really does work great! I have tested it myself, and I see that the BoxLock app IS getting notifications of packages, and when you scan the package the box DOES open. Here is the problem though: I have yet to have any carrier actually use it. At a certain point, I even printed out signs to put all over the box to ask carriers to use the box, and giving them directions on how to use the box. Not one package has been put in the box so far. Every time a package comes and is not put into the box, I test scanning it myself to see if the system is working. Most of the time it takes several tries, but usually, the box opens when scanning the package. It's just that the carriers can't be bothered. I have literally had them set the package right next to the box or even ON the box, but not in the box. Frustrating.Bottom line is that it's a good idea on paper, but not in practice. It just doesn't get used, and therefore just isn't practical. One day if these become more of a regular thing, maybe, but right now, the system just doesn't work.
