Don't think that a famous brand name means quality

I don't like leaving negative feedback. This is just a fair warning to fellow tradespeople. After taking the time and effort to use what I felt was a reliable brand, I found that the ignition switch did not meet OEM quality standards. This despite the claim to OEM quality in terms of fit, form and function. It looked right. It even went well with the holes. The problem is that the internal electrical parts of the ignition switch did not meet functional standards. I removed my 23 year old Motorcraft OEM switch after disassembling the lower half of the dash. New part installed and key turned. NOTHING but one click. If there is poor contact, check all possible points. It didn't even "click" on the next try. only silence Knowing how to assemble them, I gently pushed the "new" button during installation. starter is on. When I release the pressure on the sides of the switch body it WILL NOT restart. My example was a poorly made part. I'm guessing like most parts these days it came from overseas. Don't waste your time and money with a poor quality part (no pun intended). I'm trying to avoid dealer counters because of the added markup and hassle, but for that important part I'll be buying the Ford Motorcraft brand. They demand the best quality suppliers and the parts just work.

Pros
  • Switches and relays
Cons
  • I don't like it, everything is fine
