Review on πŸ“» Stay Prepared with the Eton Rugged Multipowered Portable Emergency Weather Radio & Flashlight: Green (NSP101WXGR) by Heather Nelson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

So far so good.: Radio station

Well I've been using this Eton Scorpion II for about 2 months now and I have to say that overall I'm very happy with it but had to deduct another star/rating , because the solar panel function of the device does not meet the "IPX/Waterproof" classification. On a sunny day with about 8 hours of direct sunlight I got 2 bars on the battery gauge (maximum 3 bars). Others only have 1 bar. Other loading functions work pretty well. Socket and crank (although you'll have to turn it) a few minutes to get some radio time; The flash works for a while with just a few taps. Note. The product claims to be "splash proof" with an IPX4 rating, however exposure to "light" drizzle/rain rendered the device unusable for around 2-3 days. Luckily after drying it works again. **************** I bought this product to replace my old Eton Micro (12+) which I received as a gift and kept in my emergency bag for many years. After digging up and using my old Eton Micro I noticed that it was very dated; None of the cables and adapters were ever used again. After actually using it for a few days, I decided to upgrade to a digital display, better LED backlighting, a waterproof/splashproof element, and an overall larger solar charging pad. FYI - that was between this unit and a Midland ER210. but due to its smaller size, $20 lower price, and mostly IPX4 splashproof, I went with the Scorpion 2. This Eton Scorpion 2 has been tested for the last 3 days so far. Everything from starting to solar to AC charging and I have to say overall I'm very impressed. The product is durable with rubber inserts that appear to resist light impacts. I want to test the waterproofing without damaging it and might take it camping this summer and test it in light rain. Solar charging took over 8 hours in partial clouds to charge 2 bars. But otherwise quite satisfied so far. I will use it for more than just sitting in my pocket in an emergency as the device has a decent speaker. I'll update this review as soon as I get a chance to REALLY test it.
