In about half of these brackets, the holes were misaligned or poorly shaped so that the screw heads would fit through. Luckily I only needed four, so of the eight braces I found four that worked. They were cheap and made in China so that goes without saying, but I wish the manufacturers took real pride in their work. You can get the same crappy quality for a slightly higher price at Lowes or a similar store.
