Needed a speaker set for use with a laptop I wasn't looking for anything ultra high end but better than what was built in. These are good quality speakers and good value for money. They require you to connect an audio output as well as a USB port to power the speakers. On the plus side, from what I've had in the past, it's easier to carry and more functional (not tied to a place where you can plug speakers into the wall) than a traditional in-wall speaker. A full set of USB speakers would be a step up over these, but for the price and quality of the speakers I think it was a reasonable compromise. They're not really designed for portable speakers, so having an extra cable isn't much of a problem in my opinion.
