Review on HUB AXLE ACTION FRONT RETAINERS by Quinton Wonsley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Some good reasons to choose

I received a 5 15/32" long axle which is an exact replica of the stock MTB front axle I. All components were black except two shields and two 9 ball assemblies with lock Balls were 6mm diameter Threads were very tight, no play between axle threads and female threads: 2 cones, 2 lock nuts and 2 flange nuts Not all axle box bushings include a pair of BRACKET for balls Install instead many loose balls without retainers.Ball retainers have several advantages: 1. Prevents the surface of the ball from sliding across the surfaces of two adjacent balls, increasing life .2. Helps keep and prevent lubricant in close proximity to the balls that it propagates towards the center cavity of the hub where it is lost.No hassle with two separate Schu Etching devices (known as t aka "dust caps") offer the added benefit of helping to keep dirt and water spray off the bearings. They are NOT loose parts. Instead, they are firmly connected to each of the two bearing cones. They also help prevent external loss of lubrication. Lock nuts fit a 17mm wrench and flange nuts work well with a 15mm wrench. are suitable for a flat open-end wrench of the nominal width ("cone wrench”) with which they are intended for service. Fortunately this is not the case! These bearing cones have wrench flats that are 3.5mm wide and 14.76mm in diameter. I found the 15mm open-end wrench that comes with the Bell Sports Deluxe (Walmart; not the same name is available from Revain) bike tube repair kit to work well for them. This key is only 1.98mm thick, which is a bit thin. PHgiveU's new bike bottom bracket retainer ring tool 15mm wrench and 15mm pedal wrench also work well, and the 3.99mm thickness is much more secure. However, this key requires some of its thickness to be ground off to make it thin enough to fit. Remember that NO BRAND of open-end wrench can transfer much torque before notching due to the angles of the cone faces. So get ready for future maintenance of this axis (disassembly). As such, I highly recommend that you brush or dab on a light coat of Permatex 81343 1 oz Anti-Seize Lubricant before assembling this axle. threaded pipe. In this way, the cones and lock nuts never stick to the axle due to rust.
