Review on WoodRiver #92 Medium Shoulder Plane by Adam Vang

I played with one of these for a while lately, and I have to say it's a high jump in quality from the bulk of the Chinese planes sold under various names by Grizzly and other importers. The fit and finish is good, and the ergonomics are nice- not surprising as it's a clone of the English Clifton plane.But here's the thing. For about twenty-five bucks more you can get a Canadian-made Veritas with a better quality blade and even better precision. For about fifty bucks more you can get a US made Lie-Nielson that's not only supremely accurate, but a thing of beauty you'll treasured. If you keep the Lie-Neilsen for ten years, the difference in price will amount to five dollars a year. That's a very small price to pay to own the best.Most of us who use hand tools rather than power tools are amateur woodworkers, and part of the joy of hand woodworking is the pleasure of using beautiful tools to make (hopefully) beautiful and functional things. Why compromise that ethic to save a lousy fifty bucks?
