I put a set of NEW batteries in then put the installation in the aquarium to one side. When I set it up after a few weeks and turned on the switch. both D batteries were DEAD! I added a new battery, tested it and it worked. Even though it's battery operated, it looks like it has a power surge, followed by a power outage and then a power outage, repeat that. Since it's designed to turn on during a power outage (which it does), use it I use it as a backup ventilation unit in my display aquarium in the event of a power failure. I have no faith in this block. I think I'm well behind the return time for him. I guess I'll leave it as a last resort in case of a long power outage. In the meantime I will buy another unit for backup coverage if the power goes out.
