Works as a backup pump, just right for half the price. Standby pumps don't have to run silently - if I don't have power, the silence doesn't bother me - I need them to run while the power is out. I will repeat the review after a power outage but for a test run I was pleasantly surprised. After reading some of the reviews where people might have complained that it was incredibly weak I thought well they have fifty five gallons of course it will be weak. My tanks are 10 gallon and 4-5 gallon. As I needed 2 I bought this and another brand thinking it was comparable and if one was weaker I would use it for 4+ gallons.
