The sharpness and hardness of chalk pastel pencils are ideal for drawing detail. They blend colors effortlessly and magically, while erasing them well with the eraser at the end of each pen. You opened up a whole new world of art for me! It's nice to hold a piece of wooden pencil so that there are no pigments on your fingers. I just wish the pens had a nicer stand. This one is plastic and you need to pull the pencil out of the back of the plastic holder so you don't damage the tip of the pencil by digging it out from the front. (But I'm sure it keeps costs down and I can invent a better holder.) The little pencil sharpener worked beautifully, which surprised me! I will try to send my pastel "painting" to show how I used these pencils. This is my eye, slightly enhanced!
