Review on 🔧 Dayco 89016 Tensioner Idler Pulley: Superior Performance for Efficient Belt Tensioning by George Bell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Known good choice for idler pulleys

I buy Dayco idler pulleys because they use genuine NTN ball bearings. Other brands use fake bearings that only last about a year before failing again. Original Honda idler pulleys often use NTN bearings and NTN is one of the big brands. Buy this tensioner knowing it will last just as long as your original tensioner. If you are installing a Honda/Acura K-Series engine, note that you will most likely need to remove the tensioner completely from the engine. All three K-Series engines we have have the idler pulley bolted to a nut at the rear; When you pull the bolt out, the nut falls out from behind the idler pulley and is almost impossible to reach and reinstall. Save yourself the hassle - loosen (but do not remove) the tensioner bolt on the engine, then remove the entire tensioner and set it back on a workbench. Hand tighten the screw, reinstall the tensioner, and then properly tighten the idle screw after reinstalling. (If you have a third-generation CR-V, 2007-2011, remove the motor mount—it only takes a few minutes but will save you an hour of struggling with tensioner removal tools.)
