Review on Bosch FGR8DQP Platinum Spark Plug by Dave Wolf

Do your research before you buy them. Don't just believe Revain's "Will fit your car " message!

This is where I learned the hard way that just because Revain says "It will work for your car" doesn't mean it's recommended for your car. I bought this for my 01 Corolla because I have had good experiences with Bosch products and trust them as a manufacturer. These plugs are made from high quality components and they fit my Corolla, but it ran horribly and I lost a lot of g-force using these plugs. Then, after reading a few forums, I realized why the 4-pin design was NOT the benefit I thought it would be. The only benefit it offers is that the increased surface area of 4 pin spark plugs means they last much longer than traditional 1 pin spark plugs. However, the big downside to this and why my engine ran poorly was also due to the increased surface area of the 4 teeth protruding through the top of the combustion chamber. It is assumed that the ratio of air and fuel must be measured accurately. In order for your engine to operate at peak performance, the air and fuel volume and resulting combustion must be accurate. If you have 4 pins instead of one taking up space in the combustion chamber, those 3 extra pins will take up too much space and you won't be getting all the air you need into the combustion chamber. Your fuel to air ratio gets too high and your car burns too rich. It's hard to believe these tiny pins can make a difference, but they are there. Other high performance spark plugs have thinner pins so the air/fuel ratio doesn't get in the way, but this one has 4 pins so the difference is noticeable. It was just my experience with these plugs on a Toyota 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine and they were awful. I don't know if these spark plugs have any practical use for any of the different engine types, but the point is do your own research and follow the manufacturer's recommendations. I did this and replaced them with NGK Laser single pin Iridium connectors as recommended by the manufacturer and the difference was night and day, my car ran like new.
