Review on 🍳 Pre-Seasoned Lodge Carbon Steel Skillet, 12-inch - Enhance Cooking Experience with High-Quality Skillet by Tonya Greene

The first impression of cooking in this pan. Not good.

I had high hopes for this product, especially as the owner of several Lodge cast iron products. Received a carbon steel pan tonight and tried an egg test. The pan turned out to be well seasoned as per the factory seasoning process, as were other cast iron items I've received (no chips or dents). I added a large amount of olive oil and let it heat up a bit over medium heat (gas burner). I cracked the egg and dropped it, it stuck to the pan almost immediately. I uploaded some photos from the egg trip. # Pros - Lighter than cast iron - Durable, used on campfires and grills - Should last a lifetime - Long handle # Cons - Nothing like cast iron that an egg will go through on its first use tests - more expensive than cast iron but performs worse during the first Preparation. I will be cleaning the pan and seasoning myself as other reviews have mentioned the same issue I had. Cast iron items get better over time, so I'm hoping for the same. First impressions were that the pan cooking was terrible. I hope to update this review and up the stars as I am a huge Lodge fan. # Update 2017-03-22 I had to upgrade it from 3 to 4 stars. The second time the egg didn't stick in the pan! I scraped it off with a chain scraper and seasoned the pan on the stovetop rather than the oven. After washing, I poured a thin layer of vegetable oil over the entire pan. Then place on a hot stove until it begins to smoke. I turned the heat down to medium and let it simmer a little longer. I wiped the pan down after it cooled. Then I reheated it, added some olive oil and cooked an egg that didn't stick. I uploaded more photos of the second time I boiled an egg in this pan. I am a very satisfied customer and will update this review as I use this pan more often. # Update 2017-03-26 I had to upgrade it from 4 to 5 stars. This carbon steel pan has become my favorite pan in the kitchen! My first impression of cooking with this item was poor due to the factory seasoning. After using it a few times and washing it properly, it doesn't stick and works amazingly well. This is now my favorite egg pan. Factory seasoning only seems to help with constant re-seasoning. I'm pretty sure the factory seasoning is only there to prevent rusting and it offers a new black finish without the toxic metals/chemicals and paint that most nonstick pans come with. I haven't encountered the problems that other people have reported related to warping. I use a gas range and heat the pan on the largest burner and I get no warpage. I have noticed that my pan has developed a beautiful patina after a few uses. Those who have experience with carbon steel know what makes a good patina and how it helps prevent rust. I am very happy with this purchase and will be ordering a 12" pan soon. The next and final test will be on fire!
