A truly exceptional lens

As expected, judging by the various detailed reviews you can find on the usual reputable websites, this lens is truly exceptional. This is one of my favorites, especially for portrait and event photography. It's a bit monstrous considering its size and weight, but it's really no big deal if you're familiar with pricier telephoto lenses. The large front element definitely attracts attention - plus or minus, depending on the situation. πŸ™‚ Due to the long focal length in combination with a fairly large aperture, the depth of field is shallow and the bokeh is excellent. Sharpness and overall optical quality are excellent. (For the record, I mostly use the Z7). This is a sharper image wide open than many lenses at *any* aperture, including other primes. There is absolutely no reason to lower the aperture, other than to control the depth of field, which should be exactly what a top-notch prime lens should have. Build quality is excellent, as with all Sigma Art lenses. I would of course be very careful with this lens as the size of this front element offers a lot of damage area (and an element this big, even if it's quite thick, surely must be a bit brittle, simply because of its size). . FWIW I've had absolutely no issues with it and honestly I can see this thing outlive me. As for the Nikon mount, there's an obvious choice between that and the Nikon version. The general consensus is that this version is better - cheaper and with slightly better sharpness - but I've had limited personal experience with the Nikon equivalent, so I can't say for sure. Of course the Nikon is also a great lens, but I see no reason to choose it over the Sigma.
