The moisture meter arrived on time and was able to use it immediately. We had a water leak in the ceiling above the wall to wall carpet with a sponge and absorbent pad underneath. The carpet was soaked, but we didn't know if moisture had penetrated the "waterproof" coating on top of the padding under the carpet. The gauge could be punctured through the surface of the upholstery to see if it was wet underneath. It was dry. Using a moisture meter informed us of the hidden condition, allowing us to avoid moving a lot of furniture; Roll up the carpet; Upholstery removal and replacement and carpet re-laying. The census literature does not list carpets but textiles. That worked for us. I'm glad we bought it and will buy it again. It also worked for hardwood floors and concrete floors under carpet.
