Review on πŸ“· Exceptional Quality: Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC IF Macro Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras by Wei Shin Yin ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality is at the level, I am satisfied with everything.

A very good amateur-class lens to replace the whale. When I bought it (August 2022), I had about 20,000 in money and wanted to buy a regular lens. As a result, I chose between this lens, as well as canon 17-85, 4-5.6 and tamron 17-50, 2.8. Judged, first of all, by the numbers. Kenon is too dark and Tamron is too short. I chose Sigma and I am satisfied, because in comparison with the other two it has a fairly good DF range, but at the same time it is quite light. The lens is sharp and focuses well. Here's an interesting thing. On devices of the amateur series: 450D, 1100D, 1000D, at 17 millimeters it gives flying edges like a width. But on a more advanced 60D, it doesn't. From my point of view, this lens has three critical disadvantages, but they do not interfere with special tasks and operation as a staff member on trips. First, and I think this is the weak point of all Sigmas, the half-finished stabilizer. I even had to take it in for a guarantee after a year of mileage - the picture began to tremble. For travel, this moment is not critical. But I also use this glass for work - for shooting in difficult conditions, a stub can be useful there. The second disadvantage is that this lens is inconvenient to use when shooting moving objects - in this case, its autofocus chokes. However, I initially said that this is an amateur glass, so I'm probably picking on. For work, I recently bought a Sigma AF 17-50mm f / 2.8 EX DC OS HSM - everything is fine with its focus. Finally, the third minus - over time, the trunk becomes loose and falls out. I have been wearing this lens for the third year - the quality of shooting has NOT BEEN DECLINED SO far. And the trunk has been hanging out for a year and a half. Of course, there is a latch for transportation - like in pocket compasses. But if you suddenly need to remove something with one hand, then there may be problems.

Pros
  • characteristics: range of focal lengths and apertures, lens hood included
Cons
  • stub, "trunk"

Apparently I was lucky - when checking the first copy, I was satisfied with everything. I shoot - I'm not happy. After the whale, everything in it seems to be one big advantage (well, except for the weight, of course)
