Review on πŸ”“ Swing-A-Way Comfort Grip Jar Opener in Black - 7.5-Inch Tool for Easy Jar Opening by Patrick Ceo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

They definitely don't make them the way they used to be!

We had one of these growing up and it worked like a charm, but this one has a few differences from the older one that make it significantly worse: Cons: 1. The overall length of the unit is significantly shorter . This means that there is a bad grip when opening large lids (the highlight of the device).2. The width of the unit is much narrower. This means the grip is less comfortable and adding a shim to the lever is required to compensate for the issue. On the other hand, it allows you to open smaller lids (see the pros below).3. Speaking of soft lever, the grip on the device I received came off immediately the first time I opened the device! I fixed it by squeezing some silicone into the handle and sliding it back onto the handle, but I didn't have to fix a new can opener that hadn't even been used! The sliding part of the jaws used to be slightly curved to minimize damage to the lids. This one can have dents on both sides, while the worst case scenario the old one would have dented on one side (unless you pressed hard on the grip). That being said, the new device had several aspects that some might consider improvements, including some of what I consider problems (and listed above). Pros: 1. Some like the soft touch (provided they don't fall out like I did), especially when used with wet hands. The narrow width of the device makes it easy to open small caps (e.g. tubes of glue, paint or medicine).3. The relatively compact size takes up less drawer space and isn't a disadvantage if you only need to open small lids. In the end, the opener isn't bad, but I'm a bit disappointed that it's not as good as the one I remember.
