Do not buy. If you have already ordered, please cancel the order. This charcoal insert is why Zoo Med's superb filter is on sale. Smooth surfaces keep organics out and my tank was left with high levels of ammonia for several weeks. That does not work. Go to the pet store, buy a nylon bag and over-the-counter activated charcoal chips. The chips have a rough, porous surface that increases the rate of absorption. Thanks to this, the Zoo Med filter works very well; clear water and ammonia to zero.
