We have this set to sharpen our commonly used kitchen knives that have only previously seen the sharpening steel that comes with our knife set. So far we've used this on everything from our chef's knives to our paring knives. The kit comes with everything you need to sharpen knives, plus a few bonuses, most notably the angled guide which was surprisingly useful. for those who have never sharpened a knife. The stone is available in 2 grit sizes and you start with a coarser grit and then work your way up to a finer grit. The stones are high quality, exceptionally smooth and consistent, and the knives are razor sharp. Even after sharpening several knives, there is no sign of wear on the stones. Overall we are very happy with this set and hope the knives will remain razor sharp for years to come.
