The manufacturer's representative confirms that the memory function has been removed from the 400 light version (not 800 light version). This means that the string lights will not remember the lighting mode when the power is off. As seen in the photo, I installed this cord on my roof, pressed the button on the connector until it clicked into the desired mode. I control my lights with a timer and as the power is cycled on and off a chain of 400 lightbulbs begins to cycle between 8 lighting modes until the button on the plug is pressed again. Consider climbing the stairs to do this every night.
