Happy Training With Electronic Training Collars

I rescued a badly abused German Shepherd who had severe anger issues. We tried a low level shock collar but it was too overwhelming for our now beloved Shiva so we switched to this vibro sound model. Immediately my German Shepherd responded to the vibration and then I figured I would use this collar instead of a clicker to reward her for the feedback. It took a few quick touches to make her come straight at me, tail wagging and smiling, I swear. The difference between the electric collar of fear and that atmosphere of confidence was really a lifestyle change. I'm sure my story is unique because I'm working with an abused adult dog trying not only to retrain bad habits but also to overcome the lack of socialization aspect of puppyhood. The best part was last night, July 4th, the dog's collar fell off and he lived on an acre of land so it wasn't easy to find. Luckily the collar has a built in light and chirping alarm so it took her about 5 minutes to find the collar under her favorite outdoor chew toy. Every week I try to add a new level to her training and my goal is to give her an electric collar after she is sure that she will not be punished just because she is a dog. I also want to say that if I want to reward them, I just hit the button. It's very hard not to push her every time she's wrong. Ultimately, it is better to reward a positive or desired behavior than to reinforce a negative one. this.
