The settings are a bit misleading as the left side appears sharper than the right so the number 1 is on the left which is the most boring setting and 3 is on the right. This means moving the slider left to a larger number on the right will make it clearer. The sharpest setting eats up a lot of pencil, and I found the dullest setting was sharp enough per unit. My biggest problem with electric sharpeners is that the tip breaks and gets stuck, which stops it working. I also blame the quality of the crayons we use, which keep breaking when sharpened. This sharpener sharpened 2 different sized pencils we had with ease and I love the color and the power of the motor. I definitely recommend this sharpener!
