If you need to drill shelf supports, this Forstner bit is for you. You'll get more accuracy with a pilot bit, and it's really easy to get a consistent 1/4" hole at the right depth. It's nearly impossible to keep a drill bit perfectly straight, but IMO Forstner bits are essentially self-aligning, because as you cut, if the edge touches the material, it naturally seats itself. (or you can at least get a feel for that they don't shrink and make adjustments.) Resins in plywood and/or MDF will drastically reduce performance if you don't If I leave them out in the rain for 3 days they rust (oops). Luckily, removing the rust with some WD40 and some steel wool wasn't a problem.
