Usage matters. I'm using this as a bedside alarm so I'm not accounting for kitchen functions. I go to bed with music, so an adjustable sleep timer is a must. Since it is a bedside device, I play the music quieter. At lower volumes, I find the sound quite full and the radio has decent reception. I like the adjustable display brightness - basically it goes from dark to very, very bright. The device is a bit large, but thanks to its vertical design it doesn't take up too much space on your bedside table. The price is acceptable. Update 9/3/17 - Three years have passed. I have two such devices and both lose about 1 minute per month. Not as good as we would like. The buttons on top aren't backlit, so light is needed to tell which buttons are doing what. Setting up an alarm clock for one-time use is a real hassle. The speaker on a device starts to sound broken. end of update. There are things they could do better. It doesn't show exact time - I have to adjust it at least 4 times a year - twice for daylight savings time BUT ALSO at least once every 3 or 4 months for lost minutes. Setting an alarm is a pain. You have to go through a barrage of settings to get a one-time alert. The "buttons" at the top could be backlit to be visible in the dark, but they aren't. It has an AUX jack but no direct iPod plug-in. It sounds better than traditional clock radios, but is more difficult to use. 3 stars seems a fair estimate.
